                                                Introduction

State and local governments have a significant impact on people's day-to-day lives. State and local governments greatly influence consequential issues, including elections, taxation, government expenditures, education, and transportation. Although state and local governments are very consequential, they receive little attention compared to the federal government.

                        Dispite Importance little public knowledge

State governments are crticial to our everyday lives in 2021 State and local governments provided $4.5 trillion worth of public services to the american public they fund various public services including the eight six percent of K-12 Education spending this fact underscores the crucial role state and local governments play. State and local governments in the US also control election laws and practices as the US is decentralizedWhile the role state and local governments play is very consequential, the public knows very little about state and local government.. More than half of americans do not know that their state has a constitution. The little public knowledge maybe since  media coverage is more focused on Congress and the President. However, a lack of public knowledge about state and local government may lead to consequences like lawmakers less receptive to the public or lower voter turnout as seen in midterm years and off-year elections.

                                       Conclusion

While state and local governments do not get as much attention as the federal government, they impact various aspects of governance in the US and affect people significantly. It is, therefore, important for state and local government leaders to listen to the public and for the public to be aware of state and local government.
